2026年06月27日

To strengthen bilateral economic and trade exchanges, CNAIC organized a business delegation to Hokkaido, Japan from June 27 to July 1, 2026.  Appointed by CNAIC Chairman Thomas Wu, Supervisor Alex Lo served as the leader of the 24-strong delegation comprised representatives from sectors of finance, semiconductors, technology, textiles, food, tourism, and law.  The visit is highly fruitful, with both sides not only deepening mutual trust on the existing foundation but also reaching agreements on cooperation over several focus areas of Hokkaido for new business opportunities.

Visit the cores of high-tech and green energy areas for closer industry cooperation

The delegation visited the Tomatoh Industrial Complex, the Ishikariwan-Shinko Thermal Power Station, the Ishikari Renewable Energy Data Center, and Hokkaido University to gain a firsthand understanding of Hokkaido's development in artificial intelligence (AI), high-tech industries, and digital infrastructure.

On June 30, the CNAIC Delegation joined a meeting with Hokkaido Economic Federation (Dokeiren) officials led by its Chairman Yutaka Fujii.  On behalf of the Taiwan side, Alex Lo conveyed Chairman Wu's gratitude to Dokeiren, noting that amidst the global surge in demand for AI and data centers, the delegates were all impressed by Hokkaido's strong advantages in green energy and digital infrastructure during the trip. As one of Taiwan's most influential business organizations, CNAIC has maintained close ties with Dokeiren since the signing of an MOU in 2019 and looks forward to extending bilateral cooperation beyond trade and economic exchanges to substantive fields such as investments, technological collaboration, and talent cultivation.

In the capacity of the Guest of Honor, Vice Governor of Hokkaido Mitsuhashi Tsuyoshi also attended the meeting to welcome the delegation from CNAIC.  He stressed that Taiwan and Hokkaido have highly complementary industries with potentials for more comprehensive exchanges and collaborations.  During the meeting, the two sides also engaged in discussions on four areas: GX (Green Transition) and marine wind power, semiconductors and AI, food processing and tourism, as well as the space industry.

Besides business cooperation, the people-to-people connections between Taiwan and Japan are equally profound.  At the dinner hosted by CNAIC on June 30, Supervisor Alex Lo specifically mentioned that he was delighted the delegation had the opportunity to visit ES CON FIELD HOKKAIDO Baseball Stadium. With several Taiwanese baseball players playing for the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters, the stadium has become an important bridge connecting Taiwan and Japan. It not only provides a training ground for Taiwanese players but also fuels a surge in Taiwanese fans traveling to Japan, leaving a deep and friendly impression of Hokkaido in the hearts of the Taiwanese people.

In particular, he expressed his appreciation to the Tomakomai City Government, Dokeiren, the Federation of Hokkaido Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), among other relevant organizations, for receiving the CNAIC delegation.  Based on this successful visit, CNAIC hopes that Taiwanese and Hokkaido industries can continue to work together, leveraging their shared values and advantages to step up supply chain cooperation and technological exchanges.  Furthermore, Taiwan and Japan, with joint efforts, will write a new chapter in bilateral relationship through wide-ranging engagements on culture, arts, and talents.
