Declaration on Climate Action for 1.5℃ Global Warming Target
In response to the global trend towards net-zero emissions, the Chinese National Association of Industries & Commerce (CNAIC) adopted the “Declaration on Climate Action for 1.5℃ Global Warming Target” at its 70th Anniversary Celebration held on October 7, 2022, in a bid to encourage member enterprises to actively take carbon-reduction actions. Under the witness of President Tsai Ing-wen, Vice Premier Shen Jong-chin and other distinguished guests, the Declaration was jointly launched by CNAIC officials led by Chairman Mr. Thomas T. L. Wu, including Honorary Chairmen Mr. Theodore M. H. Huang, Mr. Kenneth C. M. Lo, and Mr. Por-Fong Lin, together with Vice Chairmen Mr. Huang, Chiao-Chang, Mr. Allen K. L. Kao, and Ms. Tina Y. Lo.
The Declaration states as follows:
“To fulfill our responsibilities as global citizens and to address the global climate crisis, member enterprises of the Chinese National Association of Industries & Commerce (CNAIC) are determined to pursue the international trend of sustainability and net zero. We, by incorporating industrial resources, commit to following “Taiwan's Pathway to Net-Zero Emissions in 2050” and achieving the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5℃ as set out by the Paris Agreement to enable low-carbon transformation.”
As this Declaration has received strong support from more than 160 members, CNAIC will help with its members’ low-carbon transition by establishing a shared platform to facilitate cross-industry cooperation, build the model of large companies leading smaller ones, showcase best practices and integrate resources.
President Tsai highly praised CNAIC’s commitment to sustainability as well as its efforts to launch the Declaration in line with “Taiwan's Pathway to Net-Zero Emissions in 2050,” adding that a budget of NT$900 billion will be allocated for initiatives on net-zero transition by 2030. She emphasized that the government will work closely with the business community to implement the CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) programs, helping them advance towards net-zero transformation.
