2025年10月21日

Hosted by CNAIC and Taiwan Successive Indigenous Township Mayor Association (TSITMA), the “ESG Realization in Tribes: Corporates’ Engagement in Carbon Sinks at Indigenous Communities” Forum took place on October 21. The event, also known as the 276th C. F. Koo Memorial Forum, brought together representatives from the private and public sectors as well as the academia for in-depth discussions on how corporates fulfill their commitments to net-zero via concrete actions. In conjunction with the Forum, an MoU signing ceremony between CNAIC and TSITMA was held under the witness of the participants who were present.

The Forum was jointly moderated by CNAIC Chairman Mr. Thomas T.L. Wu and TSITMA Chairman Mr. Pan Jung-tsung, with remarks from three Guests of Honor, namely Deputy Minister of Environment Mr. Hsieh Yen-ju, Legislator Ms. Wu Li-hua, and National Taipei University (NTPU) President Dr. Dalton Lin. Focusing on how to advance “just transition” with concrete actions, the Forum not only explored the balance among carbon sinks at indigenous communities, biodiversity, just transition, and economic development, but also recognized corporates’ involvement as critical support to promote sustainability in the local communities.

The Forum also witnessed the signing of an MoU on the “ESG Platform for Carbon Sinks at Indigenous Communities” which aims to incorporate enterprises’ resources into local capacities to accelerate sustainable development in the tribes. In addition, to make the Forum a carbon neutral event, the team led by Dr. Lee, Chien Ming, Professor at NTPU’s Institute of Natural Resources Management, conducted the carbon inventory and offset the carbon emissions of the whole event by using credits from Indonesia’s “Katingan Peatland Restoration & Conservation Project.”

Prominent industry representatives and experts were invited to share their valuable insights and experience on sustainable developments, including Ms. Mindy Yen, Director of Corporate Sustainability Management at ASUS, Dr. Wang Pin-Chih, Director, Office of Responsibility and Sustainability at TCC Group Holdings, and Ms. Cheryl Lin, Senior Vice President of Fubon Financial Holding Co., Ltd., who elaborated on the creative strategies employed by their respective companies to promote carbon sinks, protect the environmental ecosystem and step up cooperation with the local communities. Dr. Lee, Chien Ming from NTPU, on the other hand, delivered a speech on “The Value and Examples of Carbon Sinks at Indigenous Communities,” encouraging corporates to uphold the truthfulness and transparency of carbon sinks and carbon credits while pursuing the goal of “high-integrity net zero” in a bid to make sustainable actions more credible. Speaking from different perspectives, Mr. Jason Chen, Project Manager of the ESG Platform for Carbon Sinks at Indigenous Communities, shared the challenges and opportunities facing the tribes in his presentation titled “How Can Indigenous Communities Achieve Sustainability.” Mr. Lin Chun-teng, Vice President of AFNOR Group (France), introduced “the verification process of carbon sinks,” explaining the procedures and technical requirements in line with international standards. He also shared what can be done to increase the verifiability in the international market for carbon sinks at indigenous communities.
